Having heartily enjoyed the Death gate cycle volume two - Elven Star - I rushed onto this novel with high expectations. Expectations that were completely and utterly not met in any way whatsoever. If Elven Star sees Weis and Hickman soing what they do with a little extra, this sees them doing it with a little less. Its a boring, trite, dull and pointless book that will neither reward the reader with dept or excitement. Haplo teams up with the Sartan Alfred who he met in bk one, who somehow magically got onto his ship. He's a bumbling idiot don't you know, but he's also a powerful magician subconsciously.
