I really enjoy reading and was looking through my Dad’s huge collection of books when I came across The Firm, written by John Grisham. I liked what I read on the back of the book so decided to give it a read. It was that good that less then two weeks later, I have now finished it. John Grisham John Grisham was born on the 8th February 1955 in Arkansas. He graduated from Law School in 1981 and then practised law for over a decade. Like millions of people I have seen the film that was made from this book, and I am so glad that I read the book first. This was the first book I ever read by John Grisham, who is a 40 year old ex lawyer from Mississippi, and I have been a fan ever since. His name is now so well known, he is allegedly becoming one of the most read authors in the world. Legal thrillers seem to have taken over from spy novels, and lawyers like Grisham give more factual based stories than have been offered in the past. Anyway, back to the story. Mitch McDeere is the main character. He is a cocky law graduate who has numerous law firms bidding to acquire his ... Read the complete review

This was the first John Grisham book I bought and is my favourite out of the eleven he has wrote. Based around a poor law student called Mitch McDeere who is struggling to make ends meet whilst finishing his law degree. He is given what he thinks is the chance of a lifetime at a prestigious law firm in memphis, which is actually a firm linked to the Chicago mafia. Mitch and his wife Abigail move to a new house, have a new mercedes car, a six figure salary and all seems great, little do they know that the Firm is watching them! The action is none stop and a great paced thriller which is one of those unputdownable books, which you want to keep turning ... Read the complete review

This was my first encounter with Grisham, and I read the book, on consecutive nights, for about 5 days. The Firm had me gripped from it's first chapter and proved how knowledgable Grisham is about Law. It is complex, human and addictive as a read and has surprises around every corner. Grisham's knowledge of law blows your mind. His grasp of language and ability to captivate an audience is to be admired. If you're new to Grisham, The Firm is a great starting point, because... once you've read it, you'll be back to the bookshop begging for more. ... Read the complete review
