Advantages: Will give you some idea of how politics worked in the 60's

Disadvantages: slow and dull read

This is another story from the pen of Archer set in the world of politics in the 1960's and seventies. Jeffery Archer has called upon his insight knowledge of politics to create this book.
To set the scene 4 people are elected to parliament, 2 tory and 2 labour, thats where the similarities end. The book charts all of their rises within their respective parties. As well as their weaknesses, strengths and commitment to the cause, or lack of it, are laid bare to the reader.
Although the story is slightly out of date it does make you wonder if these characters were modeled on real MP's of the day. You will find yourself trying to recognise who they may have been.
This is not one of Archers best books. Rather than race along from page to page it seems to crawl along at a slow pace. This may be due to my lack of interest in politics, but it does lay bare the fact that some people even today may look to be elected for the the wrong reasons.
On the whole not a page turner more a slow read, not one i would reccomend to you unless you are an Archer fan.

Summary: Not one of the better Archer reads

I tried reading one of his books a few weeks ago but couldn't get through it, I find the man incredibly smarmy and this unfortunately comes through in his writing too.
