Advantages: A riviting story., Sets up the history of the series.

Disadvantages: It is best if you haven't read the Shannara series yet.

The first king of shannara is a prequel to the excellent SHANNARA series, if you have read 'The sword of shannara' then this book will fill out a lot of the history only briefly touched on in the book as well as providing a good story to go with it.

If you haven't read 'The sword of shannara' yet but are going to then read this book first like you would read 'The hobbit' before you read 'The lord of the rings'

The story written about in this book is what happened before the events in the book 'The sword of shannara'. The story is about the Elf king Jerle Shannara fighting the warlock lord and all the events and quests leading upto it, from the finding of magical items to the fall of Paranor. Events which have consequences which reach into the series 'THE HERITAGE OF SHANNARA'

This book sets up the history of the four lands and whether you are new to SHANNARA or a dedicated reader of the series this book is as exciting as the other stories and definately worth a read.
