I can't say it is the most amazing art book in the world but I can say that if you think about Ricky Gervais' funny Yorkshire's farmer accent it becomes very funny. The book consists of these animals , or flanimals, Gervais has conjured up in his imagination that all seem to have major genetic fault which cause them to very usually either die young or have an extremely pointless life. There is a brilliant funny carton picture of all of the Flanimals and a nice description at the bottom to inform of the point (or pointless) of their existence. I bought the book for a friend and had a good look through it before I bought it. I do not find ... Read the complete review

'Flanimals' is the brainchild of Ricky Gervais, creator/writer/actor of the hit BBC comedy shows 'The Office' and 'Extras'. It is a collection of wacky and wonderful creatures, superbly illustrated by Rob Steen. The cover features the Flanimal called a 'Grundit'on the front, with a 'Baby Mernimbler' on the back, as well as some 'fan-mail' written to Ricky Gervais. Inside the front cover there is a note that 'Loads of Flanimals were hurt during the making of this book.', whilst the back has a photo of the author and a brief biography of him The book is divided into three chapters: 'Spotter's Guide', 'Flanimal Behaviour' and 'Flanimal ... The first book from the distinguished Gervais comedy house, Flanimals is a random collection of made-up creatures, whose whole purpose in life is to be as absolutely pointless as possible. Although "written" as a children's book, adults can enjoy this just as much (a similar situation to the Simpsons) simply through the bizarre pictures and descriptions of Flanimals included. For example, take the Wobboid Mump (Lumpus-Chuck-Goggler), which is: "One of the most useless organisms in the universe. It is basically an eye in jelly. It spends most of it's time looking around trying to find reason in it's existence. It never ... Read the complete review
