Advantages: Fantastic characters & story lines, well written, gripping book.
Disadvantages: None.
Flora's Lot is by Katie Fforde who has written several novels which all play on her life experiences and all have a similar theme of somebody learning a new skill & meeting a love interest along the way.
Flora's Lot follows Flora Stanza who has sub-let her property in London & moved to the country to take up her place in the family business of auctioneering & antiques after being left a stake by a relative and deciding that she wants to do something different with her life. When she arrives she is met by her rather abrupt cousin Charles and his fiancée Annabelle who is determined to turn Flora's head off the whole idea and send her back to London with her tail between her legs as soon as possible and for a while Flora almost takes up their offer to buy her out but then something changes her mind and she finds herself compelled to stay and see if she can make things work out in her favour.
The business is struggling but Flora wants to turn this around and there is a very good reason that Charles & Annabella don't want her to succeed but initially Flora may think that their plans are well intended and could make everyone very rich but then she sees through the pound signs and begins to make her own opinion about things.
I think the storyline was very engrossing for me and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I have read it several times now and for now at least it's one that is part of my 'for keeps' collection. I really enjoy Katie Fforde's writing style and I am a big fan of these chicklit type books.
The paperback version of this book is available for £5.98 from Amazon.co.uk and is eligible for free delivery (if you spend over £5.00). I would thoroughly recommend this book for anybody who is fans of a good chicklit book as it is just so well written and gripping throughout. The characters and story lines are very enjoyable and I really enjoyed the entire book. I am rating it 4/5 as it's very well written and is one that I could easily read again from time to time without becoming bored.
Summary: A fantastic book for any fans of the chick lit genre.
