I am an avid book reader especially in the winter with the long cold evenings and nothing on TV.However I do find that continuous book reading can become a bit daunting at times. So when I am `between books` I like to read a short story.
Follow Me ,by Sheila O`Flanagan,published in2011, is one of the Galaxy Quick Reads series and is the right sort of story for a short book.The story follows career girl Pippa Jones who is in her late twenties, single , living in London and works as a saleswoman for a computer security firm.She is very ambitious , good at her job and is trying to win her firm`s in house competition for the best salesperson of the year, with a trip to New York as the prize.
She travels all over the country and is doing well until she notices she has some stiff competition from a rival firm.To begin with there is an air of mystery about the story to do with a handsome young man who seems to be following her wherever she goes.
The character of Pippa is one that many young women in their late twenties can identify with. Still single and ambitious with friends of her own age ,who are begining to move on ,settling down with their own boyfriends, Pippa is often quite lonely.This story is set in the 21st century with a good modern day background , computer jargon etc.
I do not usually read Chic Lit and this is the first Sheila O`Flanagan book that I have ever read .I enjoyed reading it and I will be looking for her books again. I found my copy of the book in my local library in the `short reads` section, but if you want to buy a copy it will cost you £1.99 ( you might find it for less on Amazon) and I think it is worth the money. You can find out more about Sheila O`Flanagan and her books on her website ;
Follow Me by Sheila O'Flanagan is the second book of my six book challenge from the library. www.sixbookchallenge.org.uk
This is not really a book a would normally read, the only time I read romance type books is if someone gives one to me, however this book is what they call a quick read and is only 111 pages long of fairly large type so if you are not sure if these books are for you it's the perfect place to start.
The book is set in current time Birmingham and introduces you to a young women who is a bit of a go getter in the business sales department. Having been crushed by a recent boyfriend partly due to her work demands, she pushes further on in her career hitting top sales figures. The prize for top sales figures is a trip to New York this year and Pippa wants it bad.
Whilst trudging the sale circuit Pippa takes a lunch break and happens on a brief "have you finished with this table" conversation with a handsome guy. As brief as it may be Pippa can now not get this guy out of her head! What's even more strange is that she keeps seeing him in various random places.
The story follows to when they actually meet and the romance trials and tribulations that goes with it.
To tell you more would ruin the end but it is a fun little book that is an easy read suitable for a train journey or sticking in your bag, not long enough for a holiday read.
I am surprised by how much I enjoyed it!
