Advantages: lots of useful information

Disadvantages: expensive really, but how can you put a price on health

I bought this book as a special offer together with another one called The Guide to Vitamins and Minerals. The price for the two was around £26.99 if I remember rightly.

It's a good solid hard backed book 400 pages in length, although that does include all the acknowledgements and writing credits. Its also got a good many of the pages taken up by photographs and illustrations some of them are useful for identification purposes, for example, depicting the funghi you can and can't eat whilst some are just pretty pictures probably used to pad the book out and make it look a little more appealing.

Virtually every ailment you can think of is in here and along with them are recommendations of things to include or exclude in your diet. Some topics show a short case study story of certain illnesses and the ones I've read so far always have a happy ending unlike real life unfortunatley.

As you leaf through the pages you'll find easy to read tables on subjects like vitamins, minerals, micro minerals and various food groups. These tables show male and female daily requirements, the role in your health, best food sources, symptoms of deficiency and the symptoms of excess, important and quite interesting when you get into it.

You can find so many things to interest you in this book I couldn't possibly mention them all so here are just a few more.

Pollution and Pesticides.

Fats,How to achieve a healthy balance.

Pregnancy.

Macrobiotic Diet.

Foods From the Countryside.

Dos and Don'ts to prevent food poisoning.

Circulation Problems.

Cancer, How diet Can Help.

Sleep And Your Diet.

Herbs For Health.

Some of the topics covered are a little short I think in places, and could do with a little more information added, but otherwise on the whole this is a really good reference book that anyone can find easy to use.
r>Any unfamiliar terms and words are explained in good plain English in the glossary of terms towards the back of the book,(a very useful part of the book for me)so that makes it a lot easier to read and understand.

It's not a book that I would sit and read for hours on end, but one that I just kind of dip into now and again, but I think thats probably the way its meant to be read anyway as it is a reference book.(Doh!)

As for the other book that I bought at the same time as this one - I've not touched it yet,but I will so look out for the follow up op!

Remember the price below is for two books!
