For Your Eyes Only - Ian Fleming ... damnable luck! Before Bond could pull himself together, the girl had come up to his table and sat down. 'I'm sorry I'm late. We've got to get moving at once. You're wanted at the office. She added under her breath: 'Crash dive.' Sudden emergencies and beautiful girls who aren't quite what they seem are the stock-in-trade of James Bond. And when 007 is on the case there's only one thing you can be sure of - the result with be thrilling. Whether he's dealing with the assassination of a Cuban thug in America, the destruction of an international heroine ring, or sudden death in the Seychelles, Bond gets the job done - in his own suave and unmistakable style.

Diamonds Are Forever - Ian Fleming

Premium Review Spectreville (1200 words)
by Jake Speed - written on 25/07/09 (Very useful, 127 readings)
Rating:

another reader who thought it was absolutely dreadful and the nadir of the series. Diamonds Are Forever is no different and the main bone of contention here is that Ian Fleming, possibly the most English person that ever lived, plunges 007 into the world of American gangsters, drawing inspiration from Raymond Chandler and American crime fiction in general. If you have ever seen a Bond film (and who hasn't?), you will barely recognise him as he is portrayed in the original novels. If you come to any of these novels expecting a 'book-of-the-film', you will be sorely disappointed, but don't give up - if you keep reading and you might just find something more entertaining than you originally expected. The books make effortless reading, short punchy sentences, devastatingly simple plots, and a satisfying shortage of pages mean you finish the things in no time at all. Fleming is not shy of repetition - you'll find yourself reading about Bond's 'cruel smile', 'dark comma of hair' and his ...

much earlier. Ian Flemming had written nearly all of the stories before Dr. No was written and so the James Bond of the books is a hugely different man from the films, he's set some 10 years earlier after all! If your a bond fan then try the books, some wont get on with them because they're not action spy with ...
