This is a great read for any young teen. I can remember the days of Enid Blyton and the famous five going off on their adventures and they were great (and still are in their own way), but this is so much more. Truely a kids adventure of its time, it draws on some elements of fact interspersed with the fiction, which makes for a gripping tale. The basic premise is that four kids go off on a day trip together in a boat (the 5th child comes later) and come accross an island that doesn't show on their map. It's a long time since I've been so involved in a book that I've literally been unable to put it down, but Forbidden Island gripped me from start to finish and I read it in one day, which is very unlike me! The book tells the story of five teenagers, aged between 13 and 16, who set out on a boat trip and come across a mysterious island. What begins as a fun exploration of the island soon turns into a terrifying experience when they find themselves unable to get away and at the mercy of a decades old threat that could be the death of all of them.
