I think I must start by saying that this book was something of a revelation to me. No, it was. Picture the scene, me standing in a Sorrento newsagent/hotel skimming through the book selection a la The League of Gentleman, muttering, 'read it', 'read it' , 'read it', 'not reading that!' when my eye fell on The Fortune Teller. I had never heard of James before but felt reassured by the proclamation on the cover that he was the bestselling author of Monstrum (next on my list) and was 'head and shoulders above authors such as Thomas Harris and James Patterson'.
