I started reading the Asimov Foundation series a few years ago. It was my first real dip into sci-fi books. Recomended to me by a friend the first book in the series is ironically one of the latest ones written. Prelude to foundation tells the story of what happened before the foundation series.

This first book is one of the best I have read in a long time. Asimov weaves an incredibly deep story pulling you into the lives of his characters as they face their trials. This book is one long road of plot twists. With an incredible climax which is impossible to predict (unless you have read the other books.)

The rest of the five or so books plot the course of the foundation set up by a dying galactic empire and powered by the predictions of an incredible mathmatician Hari Seldon working in the field of psycohistory (the prediction of the future based on ideas about large groups of people).

The series concludes many generations later with a decision which affects the future of the whole galaxy.

The name Asimov is inexorably linked in some peoples minds with robots and the three laws of robotics. Robots feature heavilly in these stories as well. One of the main characters is the undying robot at the centre of this wonderfully intriguing story.

Once you've read prelude to foundation you'll need to read the rest the story is that gripping.

I found it a lot cheaper to get these books from the library but you do only get one read that way. If your rolling in it buy the books otherwise I suggest you use a library or get borrow them from a friend.

I found "Foundation" to be an amazing novel. The only odd thing about it was that there was only 1 female character, and she was pretty much irrelevant to the plot.

Weird.
