Minette Walters is one of my favourite authors. I have read about six of her novels so far and intend to read all she has published. I find her books interesting, exciting and they aren't too similar to each other either. I also like the way she often punctuates her chapters of text with 'evidence' in the form of letters, text messages, news reports and so on. One of the best books I read in 2007 was Acid Row by Minette Walters and I decided to begin 2008 with another of her novels - Fox Evil. A weighty paperback of 557 pages, I looked forward to getting engrossed in another thrilling story. Early on in the book though, I realised it hadn't ... Read the complete review

Let me start this op by introducing you to Colonel James Lockyer-Fox. A retired gentleman of the military who lives in a Manor House in Shenstead Valley, Dorset. He has enemies though, many enemies. From the blue rinse brigade who are accusing him via midnight telephone calls of murdering his wife, Ailsa, to a much more sinister character who's lurking in the background waiting to take revenge on Colonel Lockyer-Fox. And so begins Fox Evil. Out of the many characters in this book, the ones you need to know about are the Colonel, his recently deceased wife (Ailsa), his charismatic but devious son (Leo), his alcoholic tart of a daughter (Elizabeth) and one ... After the major disappointment of Acid Row, I swore I?d given up on Minette Walters. I considered that novel so beneath her talents that I was determined not to let her let me down again. However, after assurances from my mum that Walters was well and truly back on form, I got myself a copy of her latest paperback, Fox Evil, settled down with a coffee and found myself instantly hooked. The Plot: Nancy Smith, the adopted daughter of gentrified country parents, receives a visit from a solicitor informing her that her natural grandfather wants to get in touch. Happy as she is, she refuses point blank. Then she receives a letter from her ... Read the complete review

Fox Evil is the 9th novel from award winning mystery/crime writer Minette Walters, and in her style it features different classes of people clashing with a murderous plotline. The Plot When Ailsa Lockyer-Fox is discovered dead in her garden with bloodstains near her and her in only her nightdress, suspicious minds start to go to work, despite a coroner's verdict of death by natural causes. The Lockyer-Fox family are incredibly wealthy landowners in Dorset, and soon are at loggerheads with a group of gypsies, led by the appropriately named Fox Evil. Ailsa's husband, James, is acting extremely eccentrically, and calls for his only granddaughter ... Read the complete review
