Great historical fiction (Cornwall 1790 - 91) with varied sub-plots. The election sub-plot wasn't as gripping as the rest of the story.

Great narrative and characters Too much detail at times, therefore makes the book a needless 500 pages

Just a fantastic read! Some of may make you feel a bit sick

Evocative, lyrical, beautiful use of language May be tricky for those with little knowledge of Scots

Great story, great writing, lots to learn Not as widely known as it should be
