~ Author ~ This book is written by Luke Jackson, a 13-year-old boy with Asperger Syndrome. He has also written another book, A User Guide to the GF/CF Diet for Autism, Asperger Syndrome and AD/HD. Luke has 3 brothers and 3 sisters. One of his brothers has AD/HD and another one of his brothers has autism. He writes this book as a user guide for other people with Asperger Syndrome and their families. ~ Asperger Syndrome ~ Asperger Syndrome is a form of Autism. My son was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome in 2005. Asperger's is an Autistic Spectrum Disorder which is characterised by the "triad of impairments"; impairments of imagination, communication and social interaction. Sensory problems, anxiety, depression, physical clumsiness, a lack of empathy, obsessions and repetitive behaviours are also common accompaniments. Though I read several books that explained Asperger's to the parent (I would highly recommend "Asperger's Syndrome" by Tony Attwood as the best book to read first), I was thrilled to find this book "Freaks, Geeks and Asperger Syndrome, A User Guide to Adolescence" by Luke ... This is a fantastic book regardless of why you are reading it. I have worked in the past, and still do, with children who have AS and this was my main reason for reading it. It has such a different feel from other books as he is only 13 and this comes across so much in the book. I have read other books by teenagers and young adults with the same condition and they are equally just as good. I liked the fact that it all seemed to be Luke coming through rather than an adult's influence (apart from the obvious guidance and tidying up a book would need before it gets published). The topics he covers are very relevant to those who have AS and those who come in ... Read the complete review

Freaks, Geeks and Asperger Syndrome could not have been written by anyone else other than someone with Asperger Syndrome. It is Luke Jackson's personal experiences of growing up with the condition and he writes it as it happened with no bitterness or self pity, just documents events and puts most things down to his Asperger. He is an inspiration to other teenagers who have Asperger Syndrome and can feel isolated and alone, knowing they are not quite like everyone else. Luke seems, at times, to look upon the fact he has Asperger Syndrome as a friend, especially during the times he has difficulty trying to figure out the sense of something. It is fascinating to read ... Read the complete review

After recently being diagnosed with Aspergers myself, I was told to read this book as I had never understood the condition and felt like a freak. I am so glad that I read this book, being an adolescence myself I found it so useful. I felt a sense of normality knowing that I wasn't the only one going through not only adolescence which is a difficult time in itself, but also coping with AS aswell. I always keep this book handy and refer back to it when I feel a little down. I would throughly recommend anyone who has AS (especially adolescence) to read this book. I would also recommend that parents of teenagers with AS read this book aswell, both of my parents have and they ... Read the complete review
