Frenchman's Creek - Daphne du Maurier ... Columb to be ripe for any folly, any outrage that will alter the tedium of her days. But there is another, secret Dona who longs for a life of honest love -- and sweetness, even if it is spiced with danger. It is this Dona who flees the stews of London for remote Navron, looking for peace of mind in its solitary woods and hidden creeks. She finds there the passion her spirit craves -- in the love of a daring pirate hunted by all Cornwall, a Frenchman who, like Dona, would gamble his life for a moment's joy.

Innocent enough save for the fact that these items were residing in the table drawer beside her bed... who's been sleeping in my bed? cries the startled Goldilocks! Engaging, a new take on the genre. The surprise ending was no surprise at all.

It's Steinbeck but it's not STEEEEINNNNNNNBECK

Beautifully written, heart-wrenching novella, Arguably lacking in plot

A wonderful read May be difficult for some

well written, suspenful, great read and with big ideas too bit contrived perhaps, but honestly it doesn't matter

Some real talent here, some of the stories are very chilling. None of them are quite long enough to leave the reader feeling entirely satisfied.

Passable narrative. Very unbelievable quite often.

Well-written, fascinating Way too obsessed with Montgomery & Allied bickering

Well written, good characters, fun Hypocritical
