Advantages: A good Crime Writer

Disadvantages: None

Frances Fyfield is a crime author and a very successful one. This is her pseudonym name as she was born in 1948 as Frances Hegarty in Derbyshire. She was born where there were three other siblings so it was a very busy and lively household and she longed for being an only child where then she would get peace and quiet so that she would be able to read... Her father was a Consultant Anaesthetist and she can remember that on several occasions he used chloroform to kill the cats. She went to Newcastle University where she studied English and then she took another course in Criminal Law. Then she worked for the Metropolitan Police and a few years later the Crown Prosecution Service.
Her first novel which she wrote was not very good this a family saga so she promptly gave this up and then started to write crime novels, The first Crime novel which she got published was A Question of Guilt and that was the start of Crown Prosecutor Helen West and Detective Superintendent Geoffrey Bailey and that was published in the of 1988.
This was made into a film for the BBC in 1993. The persons who starred in this were Cherie Lunghi and Derrick O'Connor.

Frances has won several awards as a writer of crime.
She was awarded for one of her novels a question of Guilt the Silver Dagger Award.

She also written under her name Francis Hegarty three other novels which tend are psychological thrillers, The Playroom, Half light and Let's Dance.

Several of her novels have been translated in a number of languages and many have been adapted for television. The Helen West Series has been adapted for television twice once in 1999 Trial by Fire and Juliet Stevenson played Helen West and then in 2002 Amanda Burton played Helen West and it was a very popular television series.

Obviously her work as a prosecutor for the Metropolitan Police and the Crime Prosecution Service has helped her write these novels

I have read a good number of Crime novels from various authors but I certainly can say that Francis Fyfield's books are a most enjoyable read and she is right in the top ten for me along side P D James and Ruth Rendall who are also very good writers
