Advantages: Good story, Good characters, Good writing

Disadvantages: Overly much is occasionally made of the current crop of psychics

The Galactic Milieu series tells, in three books, the story of humanity's entry into the higher consciousness of the universe, and one family's part in this entry.

Focussing primarily on the the Remillard clan, the Galactic Milieu series charts a period of around thirty years, covering the rise of psychic powers in the human race, their elevation as a galactic power, up until the great war sparked by the adversary, and ended by the sacrifice of his brother.

This is a powerful story, well told. The writing is excellent, and the characterisations of all the main players are excellent, lifelike and well thought out.

The main story charts the efforts of humanity to be accepted by other galactic races after developing psychic powers, narrated primarily from the recollections of Rogation Remillard, a kindly uncle figure to the Remillard family, who feature heavily throughout the books.

The series cover the period from the first contact between the galactic races and earch, through the acceptance and subsequent rebellion by members of the psychic community, weaving in a murder mystery and ending with a love story.

This is a true epic, in the best sense of the word, it is never cloying, irritating or exactly what you expect.

Overall, a wonderful series of books, well written with an excellent story, about human characters, to tell.

dreamerz - I think the difference lies in whether you're more on the Fantasy or the Sci-Fi side of it. I personally loved the Saga of the Exiles, but I can somewhat identify better with the follow-ups. Maybe that's just Rogi's charm though ;-)

The exiles saga is better in my opinion.
