Advantages: Fascinating, well written.

Disadvantages: Can be a little scary.

This book is based on the bafta award winning first series of Ross Kemp on gangs originally shown on Sky. I loved the series, but my parents haven't got Sky, so I purchased this book for my Dad as I thought he would like it. I just hoped that it lived up to the TV show!

The book starts off with an introduction chapter, which includes iformation that you just do not get in the TV shows. I thought the series had been written then Ross Kemp was picked to do it becuase of his hard man image in Eastenders. This was not the case, interestingly it was Ross Kemps idea, and that makes it all seem more genuine, that his curiosity and thirst for knowledge is true and not something invented to make a better TV show.

After the introduction follows 7 chapters. Each one is based on a different location, the same as the TV series in which he gos to a different place in each episode. The places are chosen based on reputation of gang culture and crime rates. Each chapter details an introduction to the area, chats with victims, and then finally tracking down gang members themselves. This often involves confessions of terrible things that they have done and often in detail. This can be quite chilling.

In a morbid curiosity sort of way, this book is fascinating, and does not dissappoint after the TV show. This book is not for the faint hearted or those worrying about having nightmares!

Summary: Good reading, however not for the faint hearted!
