Advantages: Tells things as they were honestly and truthfully
Disadvantages: As The Second Of A Set Of Five The First Book Has To Be Read To Fully Understand It .
This is the compelling sequal to the bestseller " I Know Why The Caged Bird SIngs". Having survived the war , Maya now finds herself facing the trials and tribulations of motherhood. At only 17 she finds it a great struggle.
She's isolated from her family because of the baby, she finds herself drifting between transient jobs anywhere she could, shops, resaurants & nightclubs. As well as embarking on a series of affairs.
In the end she feels she has no options left so turns to prostitution & narcotics. Somehow eventhough nothing is going right she overcomes this.
What makes this such a great read is that through it all she finds the strength through all the adversity to get back on track and become who she is today.
This is the second book in a five part set. This is the only minor drawback, however the first is just as enthralling as this so why not try it too. They will all be enjoyed.
If you are faint-hearted you may find some scenes upsetting throughout the set.
Summary: A close look into how the other half lived

- 06/12/05 I think it would be good to say who Maya Angelou is, otherwise it sounds like another crappy 'real life memoir' not far from the Dave Pelzer genre. |

- 04/12/05 Hmm.. you don't really say much about the book or what you felt about it... this just sounds like the story of so many women I have met who have gone through exactly the same... |
