Premium Review George And The Dragon - Chris Wormell: Is it a knight, is it a warrior, no its George the mouse... (751 words)

Rating:

George and the Dragon is a tale which most of us are familiar with. The mighty knight George defeats (or even slays) the brutal dragon, earning honor amongst his men and the kingdom. The story has been written again, this time with a new twist. It is still along the same lines of 'little' defeating 'big', but now the accidental hero has a tail! There is a huge, mighty red dragon dominating the lands. It lives in a dark cave in a far off place, and comes to terrorise the people. It can fly higher than the clouds, burn down forests with its fiery breath and knock down castles with a flick of its tail. This is one mean dragon. But this dragon has a secret. He is ...  Read the complete review

This book tells the story of a fearsome dragon who causes mayhem and destruction wherever he goes... and the only thing he is scared of... Mice. As George the mouse finds out. This book starts by reading like a list of all the terrible things the dragon gets up to, like burning down forests, or smashing a hole in the walls of castles. Gradually the story switches to George the mouse's point of view, eventually listing all the things he has to eat with the Princess he has saved from the dragon. In my opinion this book is a good introduction to a use of lists and facts. It shows children in a simple and graphic way how events happen in sequence and how they ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review George And The Dragon - Chris Wormell: George is a mouse (721 words)

George and the Dragon An amusing spin off from the story of George and the Dragon as we know it…ie knight with sword killing a dragon. This book, however does indeed have a scary dragon, but the hero, far from being a knight in shining armour, is a mouse called George. ~~Story and Illustrations~~ The scene is set as we enter a landscape of high and rocky mountains and move into a “deep, deep valley in a dark dark cave”” (ooh!! The suspense). In this dark cave, lives a mighty dragon. Yes, he is big and very red. So big, in fact, that he takes up a whole double page spread, and there he stands amongst the rubble, blowing smoke from his ...  Read the complete review
