___Ghost Abbey by Robert Westall __

I first came across this author at school and since i liked his books when i saw this in a local charity shop for only 50p i had to buy it!!

It says on it that it was short listed for the guardian fiction award which to be honest didn't mean that much to me. More importantly it has been reprinted several times so to me this shows that it must be good otherwise they wouldn't have reprinted it.

      __Plot__
Things aren't going well for Maggie and her family. Her mother died a wee while back and money is tight. If things weren't bad enough a woman on the estate called Doris Streeton is trying to get her claws into Maggies dad. Deciding this would be terrible when Maggies dad gets offered a job from a former friend she gets her dad to take it.
Things start off okay, well theres loads to be done as the house is a mess but then weird things start happening -maybe Maggie would have been better off staying where she was?

I found this book very enjoyable to read.It is a children-teenager book but the plot line is believable enough that adults might enjoy it as well.I liked most of the characters. You can't help but feel sorry for Maggie as her mother has died and she has to look after her younger siblings and look after the house as the lady her father hires(Doris) is useless. There are quite a few chapters in this book(22) and the book is not that long but i think that this is a good thing as it makes it easier for teenagers to read.Another thing it comes under horror but i didn't find it that scary and i don't think younger children would either.

Price-Looking around this book can be picked up really cheap from the likes of play.com etc I wouldn't pay full price for it but i think it is worth £2-3 quid.
