Remember the 'arty' kids at school, the ones who didn't really give a fig, because, well, they figured they had the world figured anyway? This is a graphic novel type comic book, wonderfully told and illustrated by Daniel Clowes. First up, I am not a great reader of comics, graphic novels and the like, so my first encounter with Ghost World was through the film made by Terry Zwigoff, which was based on this book - the comic book came first and there are differences. After watching the film of Ghost World, and discovering that it was based on this book, I decided to track down a copy. Rating:

This book is a wonderful evocation, by Daniel Clowes, of teenage friendships - their highs, their lows, and the tragic way they sometimes end, not with a bang, but with a gradual drifting apart as the friends take their separate trajectories into adulthood. First serialised in Clowes's "Eightball" comic (and being made into a feature film at the time of writing), Ghost World is the tale of two friends, teenagers Enid and Rebecca. Enid is prickly, streetwise, rather eccentric, and not "conventionally attractive" (you just KNOW she's going to be a Punk at some point!), whilst Rebecca is blonde, pretty, and much less idiosyncratic ...  Read the complete review

Everything. Not enough of it!

Wolverine, Electra, vast hoardes of undead ninjas, Captain America and battles galore none-the action roars across the page so fast it leaves scorch marks on your fingertips

Hilarious archaic dialogue from the defenders of Blighty. Humour won't be to everyone's taste, particularly those who are easily offended or too sensible.
