This book is a wonderful evocation, by Daniel Clowes, of teenage friendships - their highs, their lows, and the tragic way they sometimes end, not with a bang, but with a gradual drifting apart as the friends take their separate trajectories into adulthood. First serialised in Clowes's "Eightball" comic (and being made into a feature film at the time of writing), Ghost World is the tale of two friends, teenagers Enid and Rebecca. Enid is prickly, streetwise, rather eccentric, and not "conventionally attractive" (you just KNOW she's going to be a Punk at some point!), whilst Rebecca is blonde, pretty, and much less idiosyncratic ...
