Advantages: quick read
Disadvantages: weak ending
I stopped reading books for pleasure after going to university. After several years I felt I was missing out and decided to pick up a light book to get myself back into the swing of things. Enter Stephen Kings - The Girl who loved Tom Gordon. A fairly thin book with big writing, a good start I thought. I managed to read it in about a week while basking in the sun between chapters. :) I have to say that I was disappointed, I was expecting and wanted more and it failed to deliver. I still enjoyed reading it otherwise I wouldn't have bothered finishing it, but something was missing. The general character building at the start was good, the middle was enjoyable, and to be fair there was a slight tension build up happening ready for the ending, but it didn't. The end came and finished very quickly the final confrontation with the bear was over too quickly. I wasn't expecting a master piece because I knew the size of the book wouldn't be able to deliver. That said I still think it could have been better It won't get a place on my bookshelf, although its worth reading on the merit of a short story.
