Rating:

Advantages: funny, wittily told, part of a trilogy

Disadvantages: quite short

Jacqueline Wilson has written books for adults, but for last 20 years she has mostly been writing for young people.
She has an understanding of the way modern children of today live and the problems they face. Her books are fun to read. Some of the books she writes has elements of sadness, but they always include a sense of humour.

Girls in love is part of a trilogy.
Other books in the trilogy: Girls Under pressure and Girls out late.

What is the book about?
--------------------------

This book is about three girls who are best friends and each want a boyfriend. In the end they all get a boyfriend. Ellie meets a boy called Dan when she was on holiday to Wales and so although she is not that keen on him at first he becomes her boyfriend. Magda meets a boy called Greg, who is in her class.
Finally Nadine meets a handsome boy called Liam, but he is a mean boy who starts causing trouble.
The story tells you just how important good friends are.

The main characters
-------------------------

Ellie --- thinks she's unattractive and boring and that no boy will ever be interested in her and it's all she ever talks about.

Magda --- she is tall and glamourous, full of self confidence she is boy-crazy and fun loving but sometimes oblivious to serious situations.

Nadine --- A thin gothic kind of girl who is cynical but also good natured and at times quite gullible.

What I like about the book
------------------------------

I think it is a great book for children aged 11 years and upwards, I think children can identify with her characters because they are so realistic, there are no perfect children, just everyday children with their everyday vulnerabilities.
Sometimes it is sad, sometimes it is scary but most often it is funny.
