I love charity shops, and it was in a charity shop that I found a small, rather battered, clearly quite old and tatty book, the edges coated in gold. I opened it up, curious, as the cover gave no indication of the contents, to see a colourful watercolour illustration of two girls sitting by a stream, and the words 'Goblin Market'. This book is a selection of poems by Christina Rossett (1830-1894)i. I'm a poetry fan anyway, and had had a little bit of experience with one poem of particular of Rossettis in my youth as a church choirgirl - 'In the bleak midwinter' , a wonderful christmas carol, has lyrics written by her.
