Advantages: Beautiful illustrations and very funny text

Disadvantages: No info about the film the book is affiliated with

Brain Froud's artwork is probably most famous for being the inspiration behind the 1986 film "The Labyrinth" which was a collaboration between him and the Jim Henson (of Muppet fame.)
He is an artist who lives in Devon and has produced many works full of his original, beautiful paintings of the fairies who keep him company in the Devonshire countryside!

This book is NOT any kind of glossy film tie in so if you are coming to this book from the perspective of a fan of the film and not Froud work in its own right then be aware that this is not a "making of" film book. It is a collection of Froud's paintings and sketches of goblins (which appear in the film) and also has a few double page full colour illustrations.

I bought this book because I am a fan of Brian Froud's art. His other books such as The Land of Froud (1977) or Faeries (1979) and co authored with Alan Lee, fellow fantasy artist and art director on THE Lord of the Rings Film trilogy) are amazing in their detail and colour and complete original ness. The Goblins of the Labyrinth has this with the added bonus of Terry Jones (from Monty Python) hilarious text.

This is a large book aimed at children but which will delight fantasy artists, science fiction fans and any adult with a silly sense of humour.

Summary: Very quirky book best aimed at people who are already a fan of the authors other work
