Advantages: interesting stories, a lot of fun parts, his hatred for George Bush !

Disadvantages: Some Name dropping!

As it was my birthday last month I was inundated with new books, not that I am complaining but I just now need a few extra hours in each day to get through them all. I decided that I would read this one first as I did need a break from Harry Potter as I was getting Potter overload!

For those of you who don't know Piers Morgan is an ex-newspaper editor and he is now a judge on Britain's Got Talent and also the equivalent show in America. He also still writes articles for a variety of papers and magazines.

This book is entitled God Bless America and it is a diary which piers starts on 23rd October 2006 and he continues to write until 5th November 2008. He talks about his time in America and how he spends his time going back and forward between the countries. Piers does talk about how he initially hated America and thought that all Americans were thick and arrogant but as he travels around the country and visits different states he realises that there are some genuine and honest people there and also some lovely places to visit outside of the big smoke. There is no getting away from the fact that Piers hates George Bush and he is often found slagging him off in his diary but I have to say that I completely agree with him on this.

The diary shows how Piers started off in America with the help of his friend Simon Cowell and how he faced the critics on the ever popular show America's Got Talent and how he was branded the English Baddy. He talks about his co-hosts and how his relationship with them went and how Sharon Osbourne is such a loose cannon and David Hasselhoff is as crazy as ever. He talks about the booing he receives and how people think he is trying to be the new Simon Cowell. Piers rejects this allegation and says that he is just be honest and never wants to give false hope to useless people and how he has only ever spoken his mind. I do agree with this as the further into the diary you get you realise just how outspoken he really is.

Throughout the book he touches upon his family, his boys his new love and how his divorce is costing him a fortune. He says how hard it is being in America so much and missing out on a lot with his boys but as he explains that do quite understand and do not mind their dad being away. Piers also goes through the diary telling us about important interviews he has been asked to do for magazines and I just love the way he approached them and the tricky questions he would ask to try and get the interviewee to trip up. I found he had the most fun with politician's.

A big part of the Diary is all about the American election and how he prays and hope that Obama will be elected as he is just what the country needs. I did find his frankness and honesty very enjoyable to read about and just loved him being mean to President Bush!

I found that there was a lot to be learned from this book and that he is not just a television judge who got sacked for publishing an article which upset people and was later found out to be true but there is a lot more to him and he does have feelings and a heart and I do think people should read this and see that this is just a normal human who is trying to make something of his life for himself and his boys.

The honesty in the book is very apparent right from the beginning and I think that it made it so much more enjoyable to read for me. I found it very easy to follow and read and did not find I was loosing interest at any point as he moves from story to story and each day is very different from the next. I was pleased to see that the start of the book with his views on the America public did change the further into the book I got and enjoyed the fact that he did find the true American spirit and honest people.

The name dropping did not put me off reading this book as it does involve a lot of funny stories where people did not believe he was friends with all of these famous people and how he was able to embarrass them when he proved them wrong!

The book was bough for me as a gift but I do know that it is available in Tesco for £10 which feel to be a great price. It was published by Ebury Press in 2009 and the Hard back edition has 435 which is split into 12 chapters.

I do recommend this book to all fans of Piers or in fact anyone who has a negative impression of him as this book is bound to change that. Please don't feel that have given too much away about the contents of the book as there is just so much more to read about.

Summary: A diary from Piers Morgan which sees him falling in love with America!
