Gods in Alabama - Joshilyn Jackson

This book is the first by writer Joshilyn Jackson, a former actress and teacher from the deep south. With one fellow writer calling it 'A knock-out first novel full of astonishing surprises.' And I would have to agree this book is definitely a must read. After reading about this book on a literary website in a list of 100 books to read, I felt I should check it out. Taken in first by the cover shot that shows a girl driving through country in a droptop car with her dark hair whipping behind her, then hooked by the main backpage headline.... I read this wonderful book in one sitting. (Pretty much. I nipped off to the loo a couple of times and made a few cups of strong coffee but I finished the book in an afternoon.) The fact that I made a whole afternoon available for reading, drinking and peeing either says something about my approach to work (i.e. I should be reading less and working more) or it says that this book is very, very good. Well, I'll tell you, this book is very, very good.
