This book is the first by writer Joshilyn Jackson, a former actress and teacher from the deep south. With one fellow writer calling it 'A knock-out first novel full of astonishing surprises.' And I would have to agree this book is definitely a must read. After reading about this book on a literary website in a list of 100 books to read, I felt I should check it out. Taken in first by the cover shot that shows a girl driving through country in a droptop car with her dark hair whipping behind her, then hooked by the main backpage headline.... I read this wonderful book in one sitting. (Pretty much. I nipped off to the loo a couple of times and made a few cups of strong coffee but I finished the book in an afternoon.) The fact that I made a whole afternoon available for reading, drinking and peeing either says something about my approach to work (i.e. I should be reading less and working more) or it says that this book is very, very good. Well, I'll tell you, this book is very, very good. (I really SHOULD be reading less and working more but bugger it, not today. ) The title and the cover caught my attention in WH Smith, I am a sucker for a good landscapey type picture on the jacket.
