Anybody who knows me in person or has been reading some of my reviews, you should know by now that I am obsessed by all sweet things and this definitely extends into cakes and baking in a big way. Desserts in any form are my favourite thing to cook so it should come as no surprise that the good food recipe book cakes and bakes is in my recipe collection. Here is why this is the best recipe book to have for baking. The good food books are a range of small books that fit very neatly in your kitchen. They are by the BBC and all are set out in the same way. This is by having the ingredient list and recipe on the left hand side and the picture of what you are ... Read the complete review

With 101 recipes to choose from, you're never going to be stuck for something to make for Sunday tea again! There are six chapters in this little book: Large Cakes Fruit Cakes Chocolate Cakes & Bars Loaf Cakes Small Cakes & Tray Bakes Muffins & Cookies As well as the chapters there is an index by ingredient or recipe title at the back of the book, so you can find a recipe to use up things you have left over. This is a small book, approximately 14 cm x 15.5 cm, however each recipe is over two pages, one side has a photo and the other has a clear, simple recipe. Personally this is invaluable for me, as I hardly ... Read the complete review

Recipe books come in two varieties these days - the first are the huge coffee table hardbacks from your favourite TV and celebrity chefs, which are generally one part recipe to three parts glossy photography and self-important whiffling from the chef. The second are the small practical books that are just jammed full of recipes fit to burst. I have a lot of books, so it stands to reason that I prefer my cooking information to be a bit more... condensed. I've received a few of the BBC Good Food 101 books as presents over the years, and my opinions have been, sad to say, mixed. I remember seeing a recipe for Jamaican Jerk Chicken and being terribly ... Read the complete review

101 Cakes and Bakes is one of a whole series of titles published by BBC Good food magazine for £4.99. For about £100 you could buy the lot and then enjoy the rest of your life trying everything out. There would be really no risk involved as the Good Food people try everything out before putting it in the book, so you feel reassured before you start. The book follows the normal house style of a recipe plus full colour picture on every double page of the book. The books themselves are a handy size - about that of a large pocket. All of the recipes are good. We haven't tried everything, but can vouch for these ones: Page 170 - ... Read the complete review

I have become a big fan of BBC Good Food since I got a subscription to their magazine for Christmas and now I regularly look on their website for recipe ideas and tips. Although I have loads of recipes already from my magazines and I have access to hundreds of recipes online, I prefer cooking books as they're more convenient than printing out loads of recipes and I also really enjoy flicking through books and book-marking recipes I want to try. So I ordered this book from Amazon as it was reduced to £3.99 from the RRP of £4.99. Even at full price, this range of books from BBC Good Food are amazing value, as you get 101 recipes and each has a colour ... Read the complete review
