This is, quite simply, one of the most powerful books that I have ever read. I challenge anyone with an ounce of soul to read it and not sob at some point through the book. I'm going to first of all say that I own the hardback version of the book, not that that makes a lot of difference, but still it does mean that the book keeps in a nice condition even after a couple of read throughs. In the summer of 2002 I visited my goddaughter and her family in the beautiful Cambridgeshire village of Little Thetford, I spent a week there and one day went with her to nearby Soham because she had some errands to run. I loved the peace of the place, phoning my daughter to say what a lovely little village it was and how wonderful it would be to live in an area where you can safely let your children out to play.
