Well I'm a massive fan of Fantasy fiction. Am a little ashamed to admit it to be honest. But on my book reading travels I have come accross Terry Goodkind. He is one of my favorite authors and I have really enjoyed his books.

Terry Goodkind is an American author, he was born in Nebraska in 1948. He writes fantasy fiction and is very well known in the fantasy writing world. He has a large fan base and is a very popular author.

The only real books of note Goodkind has ever done are the Sword of Truth series. This consists of 11 books. It took Goodkind nearly 15 years to write these books, but they have made him a massive star and millions of people around the world enjoy these books.

Other than the Sword of Truth Goodkind had done very little other work. Now the series is finished it will be interesting to see which direction his writing goes in.

Goodkind is for me a classic factasy writer. His stories are just everything you owuld expect from fantasy books. Some people may not like this predictable element, but for me it is exactly what fantasy is about. Unasuming guy discovers he has power. Get given fancy sword, meets a girl and then goes on a quest to discover himself and save the world. Thats what all fantasy should be based on, simple yet effective.

Goodkind has a wonderful way of getting the reader involved with the characters. He does not rush his books, he gives the reader time to get to know the characters so that we become emotionally involved with them. The characters are often flawed in many ways which means we can find it easy to relate to them as we suffer the same fears and doubts that they do.

I find that Goodkind is quite graphic in his books. Some of the battle scenes are described in great detail and are very gorey, often torture is involved and some of the pictures Goodkind paints are very violent and graphic.

The early books in the series were some of the best ones I have ever read. As the story progressed the quality seemed to drop away a little and the story became a little repetitive. I still enjoyed the books though.

One of the flaws of Goodkinds writing is that he tens to over explain things. Subjects that we are already aware of and understand he goes over time and time again. Its as if he is not giving the reader enough credit, thinking we have forgotten all the information we have already read. Sometimes I read pages and pages of information that I already know about. This is the only downside to his writing for me.

Recently the Sword of Truth series has been made into a TV series. Its called 'Legend of the seeker' and is on Sci-Fi at the moment. I have watched the first few episodes and to be honest its pretty aweful. But it makes an interesting watch.

Overall would say Terry Goodkind is an excellent author. His books are fast paced and keep you reading. There is plenty going on and as I said they do everything that a good fantasy book should. if you have never read Goodkind and you enjoy fantasy fiction, this is one you really should give a try!
