I found this to be a really emotional story which could capture the heart of anyone it could break even the toughest person.
This story definately brought a tear to my eye. It is wrote by Michelle margorian who is a very talented writer. There was also a drama of this released staring John Thaw.
It is a story of friendship and love. The story is based on a young boy called william beech who is evacuated to the country as war sets in which for him is a blessing in disguise as he has a mother who isnt capable of looking after him. She is cruel to him and often gives him the belt.
William arrives in the countryside and is housed with an elderly man called Tom oakley(mister Tom) who is less than happy to take on this boy.
mister tom has no choice but to take william on however he grows too love william and treats him like family. he turns william into the proper child that he should be and allows him to have some well deserved fun like any child.
mr tom is not happy when he is told that williams mother is not well and she wishes for him to return home however this was just a ploy so that she could get william home to put him through some more punishment. mister tom doesnt hear from william once he goes back to london and becomes curios.
He goes to london and saves him just in time. definately a film to watch. you see a loving relationship grow between william and mister tom and a friendship that will last forever. definately an emotional one to watch or read.

Summary: great story which definately brings a tear to your eyes
