Advantages: A great read
Disadvantages: very sad at times
I read this thrilling book while at school and at times it was tear jerking. It is a sad story with a happy ending, the way we all love it to be. Goodnight Mister Tom, is set during the Second World War, follows the life of a young evacue from london who is abused by his God-fearing mother. The man he is placed with, Tom Oakley, is a hard old man who lost his wife and son to scarlet fever at a very young age. At the beginning William is very scared and nervous above his new home, but he soon settles in and makes new friends. One of his friends is Zac, he is a smart and over racting character who is a jew. Something quite sad happens to him and his parnets during the book. Alot happens in this book and it shows the terrible life that some children had to go through when the war was on. i can be an emotional person at times and this book really will make you cry. It is very well written and thought provoking. It's definitely not for young or sensitive children though. If you haven't read this then do so, it's one of those books that you'll return to again and again.
