While on holiday in Goa last year, I found that our hotel had a 'library' where guests left any books that they had read and didn't wish to take home with them. I took two books away with me and quickly read both of them, so I decided to visit the library and see if any books took my fancy. This is where I came across Got You Back by Jane Fallon.

The book follows a woman called Stephanie. Stephanie is a celebrity stylist and lives in London with her husband James and their son Finn. Stephanie's husband James works as a vet and splits his time between a flat in Lincolnshire above the veterinary clinic and his family home with Stephanie and Finn.

One day, Stephanie comes across a text on her husband phone that makes her start to question James's loyalty. The text comes from someone who he simply calls 'K'. Stephanie finally decides to call the number and discovers that the number belongs to a woman called Katie, her husband's mistress. It soon becomes apparent that Katie had no idea that James was married as she believes that James' marriage is over and that he only travels back to London to spend the weekends with his son.

The two women decide to meet up and exact revenge on James and to humiliate him. It starts off as only minor humiliations but it soon starts to snowball.

I felt that this was a thoroughly enjoyable read. The story itself is fast-paced and really pulls in. I would certainly classify this book as chick-lit, but somehow it seems to stand out from the other same style books I have read.

From the beginning, I found that I could identify with all the main characters. Both the female characters were very believable and I found myself relating to both of them, even though they were extremely different from one another. I found myself caring about each of them and what was going to happen to each of them.

James, the cheating husband is actually quite likable in his own way although obviously, as the reader, you start the book by instantly disliking him because of his infidelity. Having said that, there are a few characteristics that leave you actually wondering how he is going to take the news that he has been found out, his double life revealed.

One thing I really liked about this book, especially as I would classify it as chick-lit, was that it didn't end in the typical 'happy-ever-after' that most books of this genre do. Although many issues in the book were resolved, there were still a few issues that I felt could still do with resolving and I was left wondering what would happen to each of the characters after we left them at the end of the story.

Overall, I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys chick-lit. I found this book to be written in a more intelligent manor than your average chick-lit which I really liked because normally I like to read books that make me think, and this book certainly fitted the bill. The characters were all believable and likable which really helped me to identify with each of them. After reading this book, I would certainly read other work by Jane Fallon.

Summary: One I would recommend
