This is a study book aimed at students of GCSE English that covers 'the main components of the Standard English and Language Study sections of the National Curriculum'. I have tutored several pupils in GCSE English on a one-to-one basis over the past few years and I have always had the impression that lesson time at school is completely taken up by coursework, studying set poetry and novels or short stories in preparation for the exams, and practising writing to inform, explain, advise, argue, persuade or describe, which also feature in the final exams.
