Domes of Fire - David Eddings

Premium Review Same old thing... (334 words)
by emmalg - written on 20/03/02 (Useful, 44 readings)
Rating:

My first experience of David Eddings was the Belgariad series which I found to be a book where you really get to know the characters. Unfortunately I haven't found the two books of this series I have read quite so enthralling. The depths of the chracters seem to be really unexplored and I could best describe the book as superficial. The first problem I encountered with this book is that it doesn't say on it anywhere that the Tamuli series follows on from the Elenium series, in the same way that the Mallorean follows the Belgariad. It isn't too hard to read as a stand alone series, but there are a lot of references to the previous series which you just ...

The Diamond Throne - David Eddings

Premium Review Worth it (331 words)
by emmalg - written on 25/03/02 (Useful, 24 readings)

I started to read this book after reading the first two books in the Tamuli series (which I wasn't too impressed with). If you read my opinion on the Domes of Fire, you'll see why I didn't like it. Diamond Throne is the first book in The Elenium series, and I think if I had read the whole of this series first, I would have enjoyed the Tamuli more. One of my compaints was that the characters were treated very superficially, however this book is much better written, and really introduces you to the subtleties in some of the character's personalities. I am not saying it is perfect, but it comes much closer to the level of the Belgariad which everyone (myself ...
