Advantages: A great book

Disadvantages: missing some of the more popular characters

This is the first book of the “Guards!” series in the Discworld, and although it lacks some of the more popular characters that arrive later in the series it still manages to live up to the usual gold standard of Pratchett’s writing.

You see there’s this dragon that’s arrived in Ankh-Morpork, well it’s been summoned and, as if that wasn’t enough there’s been a very strange spate of thefts around the city. It’s in circumstances like these that the city watch must be called upon. Unfortunately for the good Citizens! of Ankh-Morpork the Watch isn’t what it used to be. You see there’s only three people left in the Watch, four if you count the new recruit and only they can stop the dragon.

Well it’s a million to one chance but it might just work.
