Advantages: Its full of love, love, love

Disadvantages: Can you love someone too much?

Guess how much I love you.. go on guess. You'll never guess..... its just way to much, too much to measure. Not just a little, not just a lot, not even to the ends of the earth. Way, way more than that.

Guess how much I love you is the latest book my daughter has brought home from nursery and is written by Sam Mcbratney. This book is so sweet, I had a lump in my throat at the end, being the sentimental fool that I am.

The book starts off with Little Nutbrown hare, who was being taken to bed by Big Nutbrown hare. Big Nutbrown hare is his daddy but I suppose it he could fit any male role model of a child's life. A brother, father, uncle or even a good friend. On the way Little Nutbrown asked Big Nutbrown one of the most difficult questions a child could ever ask someone. "Guess how much I love you." Well its not a question as such is it but a command but anyway Big Nutbrown told little Nutbrown that he couldn't guess.
So Little Nutbrown stretching as far as his little arms would go and said,

"This much"

Big Nutbrown Hare stretched out as far as his long arms would go and said,

" But I love YOU this much"

Well as Big Nutbrown hare had long arms indeed Little Nutbrown thought that was a lot. So he stretched up as high as he could reach and said,

" I love you as high as I can reach".

Can you guess what Big Nutbrown hare said? Yes, you've guessed it. He stretched as high as he could and said to little Nutbrown,
" But I love you as high as I can reach".
This was very high indeed as he was a full grown hare. Little Nutbrown then did a hand stand and said to Big Nutbrown,

" I love you all the way up to my toes", in which Big Nutbrown grabbed hold of little Nutbrown and swung him over his head. Both of them laughing, Big Nutbrown said,

"And I love you to the top of your toes", whic
h happened to be nearly as high as a branch of a tree they were under.

This turned into a bedtime game with both of them bouncing, hopping, using distances and laughing, each expressing their love for each other. Finally Little Nutbrown tucked himself into his bed, and Big Nutbrown settled himself next to him. The last sentence in this book, really sums up what I most of us feel about our children and loved ones most of the time. But you are going to have to read the book to find out what it is. There could be just a hint in this opinion somewhere.

Anita Jeram illustrates this book beautifully with soft pictures and colours. Little and Big Nutbrowns emotions through this little bedtime adventure are shown perfectly as you can see they the two hares do indeed love each other.

Being loved, and feeling loved is one of the most important emotions in all our lives. Especially, I think for children, whatever their age. This book illustrates this perfectly. Although we can never really put a value or a quantity to the feeling of love, we often ask the question, "How much do you love me?" and I think the answer is simple. People will love you for whatever you are, and however much you let them love you. It is truly amazing how a child can love their parents, friends and family so unconditionally, without question. Yet adults, always try to put conditions on love. Perhaps we could all learn a thing or two from this book.

This is a definitely must for a child's bookshelf. The book I have is a small board book but it can come in varing sizes. I have een one A3 size! There is also a special edition where you have a lovely, cuddley rabbit which goes with the story. Its also lovely for your child to have something to snuggle down in bed with. Even way after you have read the story, your child will feel loved, needed, and cared for. I think this book would also make a great first gift for a new born baby, or a Christen
ing present.

Guess how much I love you is one of those books which will be read at many a bedtime, to many children, even to my grandchildren, which is a long way off yet. But I can see my daughter reading this book to her children, and loving them, like I love her.....to the moon and back.

Lovely op on a lovely book.

When my sis was about 2, she told my mother that she loved her "two and sixpence" (which is about 13p in new money!)
