Advantages: Lots of information
Disadvantages: By the time it comes out it is already missing the most recent stuff
This book was the 16th edition of this series and covers singles released up until 2002.
We have a few editions of this book in our house being a bit of a music addict it became a "must" on the christmas list. For anyone who ist interested in music trivia and music charts this book is ideal.
The book is made up of a number of bits. The main bulk of it is are 2 A-Z listing of all singles, one organised by song title and one organised by artist.
However there are a few other sections that are unique to each edition. This one includes the following:
Chart Milestones - looking back over 50 years of the charts and summarising the year.
Pop Review of the Year - a review of 2002
Brit Hits in the USA - a few pages on the sucess of groups over the years in the USA
The 994 Number Ones - A complete run down of number one hits from 1952 -2002
There are then a few pages full of miscellaneous pop facts mixed in with the A-Z listings such as stories behind the songs or a top ten of welsh artists.
This book is great for dipping into when you feel like an easy read over your coffee or as a reference book when you are compiling a music quiz or hear a song on the radio or TV and can't remember who sang it!!
Summary: A great read for any muso

- 01/04/09 I love this book - and well remember the first edition back in 1977! I haven't bought it for about 10 years but now with my daughter's interest in the charts I can see myself having to get the next edition for her. |
