Advantages: Encourages child to participate in reading books

Disadvantages: No real story

My son was never interested in a bedtime story while I was breastfeeding he was much more interested in his bedtime milk .He was 23 months when he stopped so now I have bought reading books as part of his bedtime routine which he loves. This is one that is on my most common realist for the moment

Ha-Ha Maisy is board flap book by Louise Cousins I have no idea where I got mine from but it does state book star ton the back so it was either in my son's first book Start [pack or was picked up second hand. It is currently available on Amazon market place for 1p for a used copy they have hard back copies available but on Amazon for £4.99. It was first published in 2004.The book is highly recommended in Eden Ross Lipson's The New York Times Parent's Guide to the Best Books for Children.

The book asks on each page what makes Maisy and each of her friends laugh. Her friends include Eddie the elephant, Charlie the crocodile, and Tallulah the baby chicken. The answer to each question is hidden under the flap. The last page asks what makes everyone laugh?" The pictures are very simple with bright blocks of colour rather than any shading.

My son loves books with flaps on at the minute and I have books downstairs and upstairs as he likes to read books throughout the day but always has three bedtime stories. This is one of the books he regularly picks up. At two years old he can open the flaps. There are small cut outs small enough in the edge of the flap to help little fingers open them. This book takes very little thought or effort to read and is great for getting my son involved with the story. For children like mine who have a very short attention span this is useful.

Some of my son's books that have no actual story do bore me but this one I will quite happily read every night. Partly because it is short but it does move along quickly. It is quite a cheerful book where every character is happy.

The book itself is in pretty good condition. There is a bend in one flap. In my experience I would not recommend books with flaps on for under two's as they tend to tear the flaps off although this story is simple enough to follow. I would recommend this for two year olds but due to the lack of story I do not think they will love it for years

Summary: A good book for two year olds
