Rating:
2 class (age 6-7) and they thoroghly enjoyed it although I have to admit that some of the clever use of language had to be explained to them. ~ Babette Cole ~ Born in Jersey, Babette went to a convent school and went on to get a degree at Art School in Canterbury. She began her career drawing for Jackanory and TV comics. Her first book was published in 1976 and since then she has written more than seventy, the most famous is probably Mummy Laid an Egg . Babette Cole is renowned for her funny, witty, unconventional approach to children s books. Rating:
Animals Scare me stiff An amusing picture book by a well known author. ~~Story and Illustrations~~ The story focuses on Tom, who is followed by a dog. Tom is scared because he thinks the dog will eat him, and here we have a picture which children find amusing- Tom in a bowl labelled Pedigree Boy, whilst a huge dog bends down to start his lunch! After the dog, a horse follows Tom, then a bull joins in the procession, then a snake, birds, spiders, and bats. As each animal joins the line of animals, Tom imagines what they can do to him, including believing that the bats will be vampires and will suck his blood, and the spiders would crawl up his ...

Mummy Laid an Egg - Babette Cole

A lot has been written about this book in the media lately. It has been said that some parents want it banned, others think it is okay... Well I first saw it in my child's school library when I was taking part in a Parenting course. I had a good look at it and was very impressed. It deals with sexual reproduction in a straight-forward way which, in my opinion does not seem scarey. I do not agree with the people who think this is suitable for children as young as 5 but by the time they reach 7 or 8 it can be introduced to them. Let's face it - explaining the facts of life to a small child is never easy, but with so many children seeing their mummies having ...
