However, the offhand attitudes of Joyce's brother Leopold and sister Ann, whilst not exactly callous, give us the impression of people who have perhaps lost a small pet and are being rather pragmatic about it. There is a sense of unreality about the whole situation, whilst nobody (beyond the murderer of course) is pleased that the killing has occurred, Joyce's demise appears to be viewed as less important than it actually is...more
