I didn't actually realise when I got this book that it was actually aimed at Young Adults and had a recommended age of 10-14 (since when has 10 been an adult?! Maybe since 13 year olds can father children....). I think if I had known this I wouldn't have got it, but now I am glad I did. Whilst I would think the appeal would be more to the older end of the age range, it also offers something for the 'regular' adult reader who likes historical novels. The story is based on the life of the first black woman poet, Phillis Wheatley. Phillis (the name of the slave ship that brought her, as a child, to Boston, America, in the 1760s) was recognised as a bright ...  Read the complete review
