Frost is back and this time he is as disorganised as ever. The scruffy detective is pitched against a ruthless murderer, kidnapper and blackmailer, and must use every underhanded trick he knows to catch the offender - not that it does him much good. Taking elements from many different episodes and adding many more R.D. Wingfield manages to make this the most thrilling Frost novel yet. Knife-sharp, hilarious dialogue offsets the sombre subject matter. As usual Frost is overburdened with paperwork, cases and has "Horn-Rimmed Harry" stalking him at the station.
