have become a big fan of historical fiction - and especially of anything set in and around the era of the Roman Empire - so, being a big fan of Robert Harris and his previous novels, could not resist when I saw this last week in Tesco for the bargain price of £3.73!! I read Enigma, the second book by Robert Harris, and it had impressed me so much that I bought Archangel at the Airport shortly after. It's a good job I had already read Enigma, because I doubt that the summary of the plot on the back page of Archangel would have convinced me to buy it. A historian with the unlikely name of Fluke Kelso hears of a secret notebook that belonged to Josef Stalin, and he is determined to track it down. Sound interesting? Surprisingly, the story is enthralling from the start, with an account of the death of Stalin, and the theft of the notebook, and as Kelso begins to learn more, about the contents of the book and the implications of ...
