Advantages: Excellent story, very well written and ends the series very well

Disadvantages: 2 swear words, may be to 'scary' for young children

Well I have finally finished the whole 7 books of Harry potter. I would firstly like to apologise to my hubby for all the housework which did not get done whilst I was too busy reading the books and tell him I will make up for it now!

********I am going to give warning to anyone who has not read book 6 yet as they may not wish to read about the plot as it will give away the ending of the previous book.********

The plot is a bit complicated in this book as Harry, Ron and Hermione have all decided that they will not be going back to Hogwarts and they will be searching for the last of the Horcruxes which Dumbledore started searching for. With the death of Dumbledore in the previous book Harry is finding the task a lot harder than he thought. He does have some information to work on as Dumbledore did give him some help as to places where The Dark Lord would be likely to hide these objects and indeed the objects which he would select to store parts of his soul in.

As the Dark Lord and the Death Eaters are continuing their rage they have finally managed to take over the ministry which is announced to all at the wedding of Fleur and Percy which results in the trio making a hasty exit and having to move from their destination every few days as Harry is now public enemy number one. The trio end up staying in Grimmund Place where they start making plans for finding the Horcruxes. After several months the trio have only found one and spirits are not high and they are still all wondering why Dumbledore left them the items he did in his will. Tensions run high between the trio as nothing in moving forward and as a result Ron decides he has had enough and leaves.

Harry and Hermione are left on their own to try and find the Horcruxes but with the Death eaters getting closer and The Dark Lord becoming more powerful will they ever be able to get into his mind and find the missing ones. Also will Ron ever find his way back to the others or is the trio to remain a duo? More importantly will the Dark Lord ever be bought down?

I really have tried to explain the plot without giving too much away that is why it may sound a bit strange for some but I really feel that you need to read the book to put an end to the series for yourselves as it really is an amazing end to the whole series.

I think that this book is the second best from the series as I much preferred the Half Blood Prince which was a lot darker than this one. J K Rowling has managed again to keep the readers involved and interested in the book with the way she has written it. Harry and the others have aged very well in the story and it does come across very well with the things which they say and do to each other and I like how they are now more grownup than before.

The story may seem hard to follow from the plot outline I have given above but it really isn't. I will say that this is not a book which you can just pick up and read without reading the previous ones as you really will not have a clue what is happening. Rowlng has managed to put across fear, joy, love and so many more emotions in just the way she has written this story and I feel did feel for each and every one of the characters.

The story has been written in a wonderful way which is very easy to follow and Rowling has used nice simple words which will make it easier for children to read. I would say that I found two swear words in the book but I was not offended by them so it is entirely your choice if you allow your child to read it but I would say that due to the nature of this story and the ending I would not personally allow a child under 11 to read it as they might find it a bit scary and dark.

The one downside to this story for me was that as the trio were about of Hogwarts we did not have the usual fun characters featured so much and I did find I was missing Hagrid, the grounds keeper as he always bought a fun and crazy element to the story. When they were featured they were indeed different as they were doing a completely different job but I still think Rowling managed to put a bit of their old characters in the book. I also think that the addition of the book about Dumbledore was well thought as it did have me casting doubts as to whether he was a pure and innocent as he had been portrayed, I liked the added mystery this bought to the story.

I certainly feel that this book does give an end to the series and I feel it was ended extremely well by Rowling as she did leave us hanging on right up until the last few pages and I liked how I was not able to work out the ending and predict what was going to happen. The book really did keep me hooked and I did find it hard to put down.

The book which I have is the paper back edition which has a retail price of £8.99, I do feel that this is a bit too high as it is a lot more than the previous book but it is available in Tesco for just £5. It was published by Bloomsbury Press and has a whopping 607 pages!

I do highly recommend this book as it does complete the series and give a final end to the plight of Harry Potter against the Dark Lord.

Summary: Can Harry finally finish off the Dark Lord or will he have to pay the ultimate price?
