Advantages: even more drama, gruesome deaths and the next installment in the series

Disadvantages: It ends on a cliffhanger

Harry potter and the half blood prince is the latest book that I have gone out and bought and the latest in the Harry potter range. So far at the start of this review, I am almost at the end of my book. Can't wait but apparently it ends on a cliffhanger I shall wait and see, but let you know by the end of this review.

A quick summary of the main characters

Harry potter
Harry is the famous boy who defeated the dark lord, Voldemort (which no other witch or wizard can say without flinching). Harry's parents were killed by Voldemort trying to save Harry's life. They succeeded with they're wish, but Harry was left with a lightning shaped scar on his forehead and some of Voldemort's powers with no parents as well. Harry was bought up by his muggle aunt and uncle in 4 privet drive and has a cousin called Dudley who is extremely fat. Harry was treated like a servant before the letters for Hogwarts came along.

Voldemort
Voldemort's real name was tom riddle. Voldemort was powerless for many years, but is now living again. Most witches and wizards thought that he was dead, but he was just mainly a spirit, waiting for the power to come along and resurrect him. He wants to kill Harry to become immortal. He is known as 'he who must not be named'. He has many followers.

Ron Weasley
This is one of Harry's best mates. He has a younger sister, Ginny, two older twin brothers, Fred and George, and two other older brothers, bill and Percy. Ron gets scared pretty easily and is against Draco Malfoy big time.

Hermione granger
This is Harry's other best mate and is what is known as a mug blood which is a nasty insult to people who have no witch or wizarding blood in their bodies. She is the smartest person in their year and knows pretty much everything. She hates Ron when she first meets him.

Dumbledore
Dumbledore is the best head teacher around and is the only person that Voldemort is scared of. He tries to help Harry with all his challenges to the best of his ability.

Draco Malfoy
Draco Malfoy is the enemy of Harry. His dad was a follower of Voldemort and soon becomes one again. Draco has two other best friends, Crabbe and Goyle. He is the school bully.

Neville Longbottom
Neville is like Harry in some ways, he has no parents as they were killed by Voldemort. Neville is very clumsy and often forgets things. He is an extra to Harry's small group.

The very start of this book begins with the prime minister of this country getting paid a visit by Cornelius fudge and being told that muggles are in mortal danger. Voldemort is on the run and with the dementers and death eaters slowly increasing on Voldemort's side, things are beginning to heat up, and muggles are being killed more and more. Things are collapsing and storms are brewing in the real world and so the prime minister gets blamed for everything and is becoming very stressed out. But there's another surprise in store. Fudge is no longer the minister of magic. It has been given to a man named Rufus Scrimgeour. I think that he was given this job, mainly because fudge never believed Harry when he was telling the truth about Voldemort last year.

The next chapter is all about Sirius's cousin, Bellatrix and Draco Malfoy's mother going to see Snape to try and beg him to beg Voldemort not to let Malfoy do something. We don't know what it is at this stage, but it's something evil, and the word death eater was mentioned a few times. Malfoy has to kill someone, and his mother doesn't want him to because if he fails, he dies. So Snape has to promise to finish off the job if Draco doesn't manage to do it, to try and protect Draco the best of his ability, and to watch over Draco as he does what he's supposed to do.

The next chapter tells us of Harry getting a letter from Dumbledore asking him to go to the Wesley's for the rest of the holidays, and he is told that he will be picked up this Friday at 11pm. But Harry doesn't pack anything because he thinks that something will happen to stop Dumbledore from picking Harry up. So when eleven o clock comes and Dumbledore arrives, Harry is not ready, and so the Dursleys aren't prepared for his arrival and neither is Harry. But eventually they get there in the end and Harry has to try and persuade an old teacher to come back and teach at Hogwarts. They manage to do so at last and then they go to the Weasleys house. Before they went in to the house though, Dumbledore spoke to Harry about the recent killings or famous witches and wizards, like Amelia bones. Dumbledore says to Harry at the end of the chapter to keep his invisibility cloak with him at all times as he may need it and that the weasleys' house has had a lot of security checks added to it.

I won't go on anymore into the book, as it may give too much away and it may upset you if you haven't actually started it. But I recommend it highly. I can say that the only disadvantage is that it does end on a small cliffhanger, but I won't say what as I will give it away too much. I can't wait until the last book comes out.
