Advantages: Exciting, Full of action, Tense moments, Keeps you reading, Excellent writing!

Disadvantages: A bit confusing at first, but then easy to get into

I had this book almost immediately after it came out but I only started reading it weeks after. I was really looking forward to opening this mint-condition book and beginning reading, but was busy doing other things at the time. Once I started reading, I couldn't put the book down! It appealed to me so much as you just couldn't wait to turn the next page and read on. J.K.Rowling is an excellent writer for this and I love her rather simplistic yet exciting writing style.

Harry Potter is a young boy who lives with his Uncle and the Dursley's. An evil dark wizard called Voldemort had killed his parents Lilly and James many years ago, and a distinct scar was left upon Harry's forehead from the event. Although Harry was also attacked that night, the magical attack did nothing but kills Voldemort's body and leaves this scar on Harry's forehead. Shortly, Harry is invited to the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry by a giant named Hagrid. This is where the whole story triggers off from, as Harry enters the magical world of wizardry.

Once at the school, Harry meets several friends and they stay together throughout the story until they become suspicious about a Philosophers stone, which acts as an elixir. This story is full of fun and excitement as Harry flies through 'Quidditch' matches (a wizardry game) and begins to learn the basics of magic at this gigantic school.

The language of the story is very appealing to all ages. As well as being full of simple sentences to entice younger readers, it keeps the older ones reading through some cliff-hanging parts of the story. Once I finish a chapter, I cannot wait to read the next one and some nights I even read two! This book consists of seventeen chapters; some are longer than others. A lot happens in this first book of the series, making it full of action and fun. J.K.Rowling's excellent writing style kept me reading very well!

If you bought it just after it came out then you might have a first edition. Is it a hard back? if so then they can be worth between $40,000 - $50,00.

When people ask me if I've read these books they look at me like I'm the idiot for NOT reading them!
