Advantages: Very readable

Disadvantages: Bit simple

This is the first book in the Harry Potter series. If you somehow haven't heard of this series then it is a series written for children about a wizard called Harry Potter, which explores the wizarding world that he lives in to great extremes.

In this individual book, J.K.Rowling sets the building blocks for the series in fantastic fashion. She introduces wizard after witch without the reader really losing track of the characters they know. In addition, she introduces Hogwarts (the school) which is fundamental to each book. Whilst introducing all these things she also manages to spin a great plot that definitely grabs your attention and keeps you longing to read the book.

Although this is strictly speaking a children's book, it is great to read at all ages and there is actually an adult version (different cover) available if you feel embarrased. J.K.Rowling's writing style is fairly simple which makes for a very readable book, which is particularly good if you are trying to get back into reading. If you have missed out on this cultural phenomenon, now is not too late.

Summary: Try it whatever age
